Marilyn J. (Brettmann) Schnell, 73, of Janesville, Iowa, died Saturday morning, July 13, 2013, at Denver Sunset Home in Denver, Iowa.
Marilyn was born October 11, 1939, the daughter of Albert and Alida Brettmann. She was baptized and confirmed at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Waverly. She attended school in Waverly, Iowa, and graduated from Waverly High School in 1958. She entered into marriage to Gerald Schnell in 1961.
Marilyn raised her four children and worked part time in Arlington, Iowa. She later was elected as Bremer County Auditor, and served for eight years. For enjoyment, Marilyn was an avid reader, but her greatest pleasure was to play the organ in church.
Marilyn is survived by one daughter, Jackie (Aaron) Opperman of Strawberry Point, IA; three sons, Paul (Molly) Schnell of Davenport, IA, Jeff (Sheri) Schnell of Grimes, IA, and Mark (Trudi) Schnell of Arlington, IA; eight grandchildren, Ellen and Katheryn Opperman, Maggie, Nicholas, Bridget, Emmale, Carter, and Maleah Schnell; brother Roger (Marian) Brettmann of Denver, IA; and sister Karen (Duane) Bergmann of Waverly, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Connor Schnell.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at 10:30 am at Messiah Lutheran Church in Janesville, with Pastor Corey Smith officiating. Public visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly, and one hour prior to the funeral service on Wednesday, at the church. Burial will be in Harlington Cemetery, Waverly.
