Elmer Louis Batschelet, age 94, of rural Pierce City, MO died on Tuesday, July 09, 2013, at his home near Pierce City, MO. Mr. Batschelet was born near Spencer, IA on Tuesday, October 22, 1918, to Arthur and Stella (Greene) Batschelet. He was educated in schools in rural Lincoln township and Spencer, IA. In WW II, he served in the US Navy on the air craft carrier, Ticonderoga. Mr. Batschelet was a member of The First Congregational Church in Pierce City, MO.

Mr. Batschelet married Mary Aileen Holmberg on December 21, 1946. They made their homes on farms in Northwest IA before moving to their farm in SW MO in 1957. Together they raised eight children. Mr. Batschelet was a cattle farmer and worked in construction before retiring in 1983. He supported his children and then his grandchildren's involvement in school sports. He enjoyed working with his horses and mules.

Surviving are the following: one son, John Batschelet of Kansas City, MO; six daughters, Linda Jabour (Philip) of Brandon, MS, Alice Gore (Louis) of Allen, TX, Donna Benesch (Doug) of San Clemente, CA, Doris Batschelet of Mesquite, TX, Mary Lou Morley (Gerald) of Neosho, MO, and Karen Nine (Mike) of Neosho, MO; three grandchildren, Philip Louis Jabour, Anna Ray Nine, and Sara Ann Nine; sisters-in-law, Ruth Batschelet and Roselyn Holmberg of Spencer, IA; brother-in-law, John Holmberg (Edith) of New Brighton, MN; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Mr. Batschelet was preceded in death by the following: his wife; one son, Donald; his parents; and a brother and sister, Robert and Dorothy.

The family will receive friends at The First Congregational Church on Friday, July 12, 2013, from 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM. Services will be at The First Congregational Church on Saturday, July 13, 2013, beginning at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Jolly Bethel Cemetery near Pierce City, MO under the direction of Lakin Funeral Home of Pierce City.

Memorials may be made to the Congregational Church or Jolly Bethel Cemetery.
