Reba Fern Thomas, 92, of McLeansboro, died at 4:22 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2013. at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon. Mrs. Thomas was a retired department store sales clerk. She was born Jan. 31, 1921, in Hamilton County, a daughter of Willie and Maggie (Taylor) Carey. Reba married Robert Alma Thomas on Feb. 27, 1958; he preceded her in death. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, at Springerton Cemetery with the Rev. Ruby McDowell officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Survivors include a number of stepgrandchildren, nephews and nieces, including Ida McKinney of Anaheim, Calif., and a number of cousins. Mrs. Thomas was a member of Christian Chapel Church near McLeansboro. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one infant son, Robert Lee Thomas; and six brothers and four sisters.
