Civil War Veteran - Enlisted on August 15, 1862, age 20, and mustered on October 4, 1862, into Company H, 12th Regiment, Vermont Infantry (Union). Enlistment Rank: Private; Promoted to Sergeant.


The 12th was organized at Brattleboro October 4, 1862, for nine months.


Appears on Hospital Muster Roll on October 3, 1862, Detailed as Hospital Nurse and promoted Ward Master on January 10, 1863. Returned to Company from detailed duty on April 1, 1863.


The regiment was on duty at Wolf Run Shoals from January 20 to May 1. Railroad guard at Warrenton Junction till May 7 and at Rappahannock Station till May 18. At Bristoe and Catlett's till June 1. At Union Mills till June 25. March to Gettysburg, Pa., June 25-July 1. Detached at Westminster as train guard till July 4. Guard prisoners to Baltimore July 4-6. Moved to Brattleboro July 6-9, and there mustered out July 14, 1863.


Invalid Pension filed on July 19, 1890 (Application No. 813,273 and Certificate No. 588,506). Widow Pension filed on March 26, 1914.
