James E. "Gene" Westbrook
WEST POINT - James E. "Gene" Westbrook, 82, died Sunday, January 29, 2003, at his home in West Point. A native of Chickasaw County, he was the son of the late Charles Clifton Westbrook and Mattie Lucille Couch. He was a four year U. S. Army Corp veteran of World War II. He was a retired grocer and a farmer for 50 years. He was a graduate of Egypt High School and Mississippi State University in 1954. He was a member of the American Legion Neyman Post No. 38, and D. A. V.life member-Golden Triangle Chapter. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Services were held Monday at the Calvert Funeral Home Chapel in West Point with the Rev. Russell Fletcher and the Rev. Bill Wallace officiating. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery in West Point.

Survivors include his wife, Joanne Conerly Westbrook of West Point, whom he married Nov. 7, 1948; one daughter, Shelly Morgan and her husband, Keith of Aberdeen, three grandchildren, Dixie Morgan, Buck Morgan, and Jon Haney, all of Aberdeen; two sisters, Margaret Maffett and her husband, James, of Pontotoc, and Ottie Lee Martin and her husband, Derrell, of Atlanta, Ga.; one brother,Frank Westbrook and his wife, Sara, of Okolona; one sister-in-law, Grace Westbrook of McCondy; one brother in law, Max Kalter of Ringwood, NJ.

He is preceded in death by a grandson, Chris Haney; one sister, Lillie Kalter; and one brother, Neute Westbrook.

Pallbearers were Harper Maffet, Tommy Westbrook, Richard Ballard, Mahlon Geer, Bud Tumlinson, J. C."Sonny" Jameson, III, Jay Pinkerton and Perry Lucas.

Honorary pallbearers were Clay County AG Club.

Memorial may be made to the First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 293, West Point, MS 39773 or the National Parkinson Foundation, Inc., 1501 NW 9 Ave., Bob Hope Road, Miami, Florida 33136-1494.
