SUNBURY — Joan Moyer Clark, 79, of the Moyer Institute of Dance, Sunbury, passed away Monday, July 1, 2013, at Home Health Hospice at the Sunbury Community Hospital.

She was born Oct. 16, 1933, in York, Joan was the daughter of the late Milton Zelinka and Inez Robinson. She was married to Howard E. Moyer for 24 years and then to Richard Clark for 26 years. Both preceded her in death.

Joan was a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore. She also studied with Anna Cris and Al White in Philadelphia. Joan started teaching and choreographing as a high school student. Joan was in charge of the ballet department at the Tony Grant Studio on the Steel Pier in Atlantic City. She was on the faculty of the Linnekin School for Dance where she specialized in ballet and modern. She also taught for many years at the Jewish Community Center in Harrisburg.

Mrs. Clark retired in 2012 after 64 years of teaching. Joan and her husband started the Moyer Institute of Dance 60 years ago when she moved from York to Sunbury at age 19. She started teaching at the Rescue Hose Company in Sunbury and above the Campus Theatre in Lewisburg. She then moved to the second floor of the IOOF building. They also opened a branch studio in Shamokin a few years later.

Joan was the founder of dance programs at Bucknell University, Susquehanna University and Lycoming College. Mrs. Clark was the recipient of the Michael Kivko "Service Above Self" award.

Mrs. Clark has educated and inspired thousands in her 60 years of teaching. The Moyer Institute of Dance has created a community—I am sure everyone knows someone who has taken class at the Moyer Institute of Dance at one time or another. She hopes that the students will keep the love of dance in their hearts and continue on with Kitty and Sophie. though the studio will not be the same without her, the show must go on, and we will continue to educate and inspire children in a way she would be proud of.

Surviving are her two children, Kitt and Zell; daughter-in-law, Cindee; and three grandchildren, Sophie, Kristen and Kara.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 11 a.m. to noon Friday at the Sunbury Bible Church, Northumberland, followed by the funeral at noon.

Burial will be directly after in Pomfret Manor Cemetery, followed by a reception at the church.
