Katherine Huck Fernie (Howard) died unexpectedly on March 11, 2013 at the age of 41. She is survived by her son, Dominic Fernie; her mother, Ann Haralambie; her father, Randall Huck and his wife and children; her dear friends, Rob Fernie and Jack Calatayud; aunts, uncles, cousins, Dan Howard, many friends and her three beloved cats, Ronon, Cory and Pixie.

She was a beautiful, intelligent and creative artist, writer and friend, a soul whose life burned bright and ended too soon.

Katherine was an award-winning artist: As a painter, sculptor and photographer and her works were presented in several exhibits.

Kat had over 12 years of professional graphic and web design experience, over 20 years of computer experience and had been published in Family Advocate magazine giving advice on web design. She was very active in online communities and was well known as for her outspoken commentary and as a charter member of the Straight Dope Message Board.

Katherine the entrepreneur started her own all natural lip balm business producing hand made beeswax and vegan lip balm. The company was called Opal Essence.

She graduated summa cum laude, from Cleveland State University in 2009 after attending a total of six different colleges (Kennesaw State, University of Arizona, Southern Polytech, Pima Community College & Glendale Community College) in three different states in what she called her academic adventures. She had been a vegetarian since the age of 14.

Kat became almost famous and exposed the world to her wild sense of humor when she developed a website dedicated to virtual bubble-wrap popping.

Her art can be seen on the website Fine Art America; Proceeds go to her son.

We are comforted to know that she rests in the arms of Jesus. Memorial Services were held at on March 23, 2013 at Faith Community Eastside, 8456 E. Golf Links Road, Tucson, AZ with Rev. Louise Brock and Rev. John Casteel presiding, and on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Morningside Presbyterian Church, 1411 N. Morningside Drive Atlanta, Georgia.
