The son of Kimball Bean and Lovina Powers. and grandson of Timothy Bean, Sr. and Hannah (Kimball) Bean.
George married Mary Ann Estes, the daughter of Isaac, on November 25, 1839 in Bethel, ME. They were the parents of five children, including Frances, born March 18, 1839; Benjamin Warren, born Nov. 18, 1842; Sylvanus, born Sept. 28, 1843; Emery L., born June 13, 1850; and Charles W., born Aug. 24, 1853.
Standing 5 ft. 9 in. with a light complexion, blue eyes, and brown hair, George was a 43 year-old Farmer from Bethel, ME when he enlisted on January 23, 1864 and was mustered into service on February 4, 1864 as a Private in the 56th Mass. Infantry. Regimental records state he was taken prisoner near Spotsylvania, VA on May 14, 1864, while Prisoner of War records indicate Grove Church, VA on May 31st. He was confined at Richmond until June 8, 1864 when he was transferred to Andersonville, where he died on June 26, 1864 due to Chronic Diarrhea.
