Joyce Carrier-Simon, 72, received her call to eternal rest on Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at Mainland Center Hospital in Texas City, Texas.

She was born to Allen and Lucille Carrier on June 16, 1937, in Lake Charles, Louisiana where she remained until she married her soul mate, Ira Simon on July 4, 1953 and relocated to Galveston, Texas. Joyce served as a healthcare provider at St. Mary’s Hospital in Galveston for over a decade before transferring her services to Autumn Hill Nursing Home in La Marque, Texas where she also made her home and became a faithful member at Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Ira, two sons, Gary and Ira Jr., one brother, Joseph Carrier and two sisters, Theresa Lawson and Gladyce Wilson.

She leaves three children to cherish her fond memories, two sons David (Kim) Simon of Fresno, Texas, Roger Simon of West Texas City, Texas, and her only daughter, JoAnn Simon of Houston, Texas; one brother Herbert Carrier of West Texas City, Texas; two sisters Patsy Richardson of Clear Lake, Texas and Betty Simpson of Hitchcock, Texas; two special grandchildren Ryan and Shaylon Simon and eleven other grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; a devoted nephew Terrell Simpson; a devoted daughter -in- law Jeanette Simon-Newsome; devoted friends Cleo Ward, Jean Hardeman, Anderson Henry and a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2009, followed by a 7 p.m. Rosary at Carnes Funeral Home, 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas City, Texas, 77591. The Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Monday, March 16, 2009, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1228 Cedar Dr., La Marque, Texas 77568. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Dickinson, Texas.
