Rachel Bowman Myers, 98, of Port Republic, passed away Monday, June 3, 2019, at Sunnyside Retirement Community. Mrs. Myers was born Dec. 5, 1920, in Rockingham County and was a daughter of the late Otis Herring and Edna Showalter Bowman.

On Jan. 1, 1940, she married John Jacob Myers Sr., who preceded her in death on Feb. 8, 2003.

She is survived by her four sons, Donald B. Myers, of Harrisonburg, John J. Myers Jr. (Linda), of Cross Keys, Richard S. “Dick” Myers (Susanne), of Harrisonburg, and C. Carter Myers (Esther), of McGaheysville; 13 grandchildren, Susan M. Garber (Ryan), Amy M. Ruebke (Tim), Tara M. Woods (Michael), Sacha M. Layman (Kevin), Lisa M. Good (Nicholas), Stephanie M. Michalowicz (Mike), Kimberly M. Phillips (Eric), Jennifer M. Bryant (Chris), John J. Myers III (Nicolette), Tracey M. May (Bobby), Anthony R. “Andy” Myers (Ginger), B. Eric Myers (Ashley) and Melissa M. Stover (Travis); 32 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by seven siblings and daughter-in-law, Carolyn Landes Myers.

Rachel was a lifelong member of Mill Creek Church of the Brethren. She was a dedicated church organist and served in many capacities, which would include her greatest love, teaching Sunday School for many years. She was a charter member and past president of the Wayland Women’s Club. She had an affection for God, her family and all people she encountered. She was an avid Washington Capitals hockey fan.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at Mill Creek Church of the Brethren near Port Republic.

A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 2019, at Mill Creek Church of the Brethren with Pastor Glenn Bollinger and Larry Glick officiating. Interment will be private in the church cemetery.
