Bountiful Captain Killed In Key West Jet Plunge

BOUNTIFUL — A Bountiful airman was killed Monday when the U.S. Air Force jet fighter he was flying crashed offshore near Key West, Fla.

Capt. James Aaron Draper, 26, stationed at Homestead Air Force Base, Fla., was reported on a target-training mission when his aircraft crashed, his family was advised.

An airman since 1959, Capt. Draper served 1½ year in Viet Nam before his assignment to Homestead AFB. He also has served as a flight instructor at Perron AFB, Ariz.

He was born Feb. 22, 1940, in Ft. Pierce, Fla., and attended schools in Ft. Pierce.

Capt. Draper is survived by his father, Earl L. Draper, 252 E. 650 North, Bountiful; his mother, Mrs. Lora L. Draper, Ft. Pierce, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Kent (Barbara) Jorgensen, Ephraim, and Mrs. Blaine (Gail) Conover, Midvale; and maternal grandmother, Mrs. Lela McCullers, Ft. Pierce.

BOUNTIFUL — A Bountiful airman was killed Monday when the U.S. Air Force jet fighter he was flying crashed offshore near Key West, Fla.
