Comments made at his final service:
Courage is tested in the face of the obvious danger & risk. But, it is also tested in smaller, less noticeable ways in the face of the unknown and unknowable of daily life"
• Pete was brought up with a strong set of family values and integrity from a young age. This was evidenced through his ability to develop loving relationships in his life. He was passionate about the well being of his children and worked tirelessly to insure a loving and healthy household so they would grow into strong and morally upright people. His love for the "Kiddo's" and their wellbeing was Pete's number 1 priority.
• Pete remained connected to those who he loved through his life and demonstrated a consistent demeanor that with hardship, there can be joy, joy that could melt away even the coldest emotions of human suffering. He experienced many disappointments in his life and remained diligent in rebounding from them and changing his life.
• Pete had an ability to bring the best out of people. He was a comfort to be with and he was genuinely interested with those he interacted with. He was true in heart and honest in his expression, from his bear hug embraces to his jubilant candor amidst loved ones.
• Although Pete faced many challenges, he fostered the love and care from the individuals he interacted with and received their love and support through difficult times.
• In his death I can only think that Pete was experiencing all the emotions that the congregation is experiencing today. Pete felt each and every one of our sorrows and joys through the recent years.
• So here we are, as a congregation to celebrate his life, his values, love, integrity, and fearless determination to face obstacles bigger than ourselves.
• Today, let's take home Pete's loving spirit and share it with those we love and cherish. Let us foster our memories of Pete for future generations. Let's laugh and cry together, and celebrate the life of Pete Martinez.
