Melinda Sue "Suzi" Spears of New Boston passed away peacefully at home on July 11, 2013.

Born on Nov. 21, 1949, to the late Howard and Myrll Thacker, she was 63.

Suzi is survived by her husband, Thomas B. Spears Jr; three children, Amy Spears Jackson of New Boston, Abby Spears of Wheelersburg, and Patrick Spears also of New Boston; five stepchildren, Cyndee (Mike) Hazelbaker of Portsmouth, Mark (Debbie) Spears of Wheelersburg, Jeff Spears of Columbus, Jack Spears of South Webster, and Jill (Tom) Noel of South Webster; three brothers and one sister, Howard "Butch " (Toni) Thacker of Portsmouth, Timothy (Lori) Thacker of Zanesville, Jim (Elva) Thompson of Portsmouth, and Jane (John) Redding of Rosemount; granddaughters Alyx and Morgan Jackson; great-grandchildren Trey and Avery; and nieces, nephews, cousins, and many others. She was beloved and will be deeply missed.

Suzi was a devoted wife and wonderful mother and grandmother who gave everything to her family. The memories that were created with her and the many stories told will live on and be shared again and again. Her caring went beyond just her family though. She had a kind heart and generous spirit and loved helping those around her. She touched the lives of many through her years of nursing at Scioto Memorial Hospital, Mercy Hospital, Golden Years, and lastly at Good Shepherd Manor.

She had the ability to make everyone feel welcomed and at ease. Her stories and sense of humor could draw a laugh from anyone. She could light up a room.

She was also preceded in death by one sister Theresa "Terri" Stone, one grandson Clayton Gabriel, and her beloved puppy Coal.

Services will be 2: p.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at DW SWICK FUNERAL HOME IN NEW BOSTON. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday, July 15, 2013, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to service on Tuesday.
