George Floyd was the oldest of ten children born to Sewell and Sarah (Sleeper) Floyd. His father was a Shoemaker.

George was a 21 year-old Shoemaker from Haverhill, MA when he enlisted on December 1, 1863 and was mustered into service on December 7th. He was taken as a prisoner at Plymouth, NC on April 20, 1864 and held at Andersonville.

George was admitted to the prison hospital at Andersonville on May 29, 1864 and died on June 25, 1864 due to Chronic Diarrhea.
