Leo Allen Chambers, Sr. died peacefully at home in Lakeway, surrounded by his loving wife and family on October 16, 2004 at the age of 74. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mabel Meyers Chambers, his children, Allen Chambers and wife Julie of Austin, Texas, Lamar Chambers and wife Becky of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Anne Lynch and husband Tom of Lakeway, Texas, his grandchildren, Austin and Travis Chambers of Charlotte and Emma and Sophie Lynch of Lakeway, and his sister, Joan Baker of McComb, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Ira and Lela Chambers, his brother, Theodore Chambers and his sister, Irene Richardson, all of Natchitoches, Louisiana. Born in Time, Texas on June 2, 1930, Leo was reared in Natchitoches. He received his undergraduate degree from Northwestern State University after serving with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He later graduated with a Juris Doctorate from the University of Houston’s Bates College of Law. He also taught at Centenary University on a part-time basis. Leo began a long career in the oil and gas industry with Texas Eastern. He subsequently worked for Texaco, Inc., Pennzoil, and later with Ashland Oil Company as vice president of law and tax for Ashland Exploration Company. Before his retirement in 1989 as vice president and general consul of Statex Petroleum Corp., he also worked for Supron Energy Corp. and Freytag, LaForce, Rubinstein & Teofan, in Dallas. He was a member of the Texas State Bar Association and the American Bar Association. Since 1990, he and Mabel resided in Lakeway, Texas and traveled the world together when not enjoying the company of their children and grandchildren. He also loved fishing and hunting, excelling at both. Friends and associates will long remember Leo for his strength of character, powerful presence, keen intellect and wit. His family will remember him always for his love, courage and unwavering devotion. Services will be held in Natchitoches as follows: A Prayer Vigil will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 19th at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 20, 2004 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Fern Park Cemetery. If desired, donations may be made to Austin Hospice or the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation in lieu of flowers.
