OBITUARY: Mari Jacobson - reprinted from the Sunday, March 25, 1920 Spring Valley Sun

Mrs. Mari Jacobson of Spring Lake, died Saturday March 20, 1920.

Funeral services were held at the home and the Spring Lake Lutheran Church Tuesday, March 23, Rev. Berven officiating. In spite of the inclement weather and the almost impassible roads, the services both at the house and the church were attended by quite a large number of people. The body was laid to rest in the Spring Lake Cemetery.

Deceased was born in Foldalen, Norway, December 24, 1830. In 1855 she was married to Lars Jacobson. Nine children were born to them - 6 in Norway and 3 in America - of whom 6 survive: Jacob, Hogan and Jerry Jacobson, Mrs. Thron Anderson and Mrs. Peter Folden, all of Spring Lake and Mrs. John Ryan of Glenwood City.

In 1867 she came with her husband and children to America and a short time after their arrival they settled on the land now owned by their son Jacob. By their industry and thrift the thickly wooded hills and uplands were in a few years converted into fertile fields and pastures. The old homestead is today one of the finest and best improved farms in Spring Lake. Mr. Lars Jacobson died about 4 years ago at the age of 91. Deceased was a few years younger than her husband.

Besides her 6 children mentioned above, she is also survived by 35 grandchildren and 8 great grand children. She also has a sister living in Norway, who has a daughter in Spring Lake, namely Mrs. Ole Jacobson.
