Earl L. Bechtel

Earl Leroy Bechtel, 79, Hanover R.D. 1, who received the French Croix de Guerre for bravery and the Purple Heart Medal in World War I, died Friday at 7:05 p.m. at his home.
He served as a private first-class with the Third Infantry division. Retired from the plumbing business in 1973, he was a member of St. Bartholomew United Church of Christ.
A son of the late William F. and Barbara (Peterman) Bechtel, he is survived by his wife, the former Lottie Stump; six children, Mrs. Doris Simpson, Hanover R.D. 1; Mrs. Joyce Miller, Shoemakersville; Mrs. Shirley Neiderer, Hanover; Robert Bechtel, Hanover R.D. 1; Mrs. Annette Sell, Hanover, and Mrs. Brenda Shank, Hanover R.D. 1; 15 grandchildren; a great-grandson and a sister, Mrs. Stella Berwager, Hanover.
The funeral service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Wetzel Funeral Home, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, with his pastor, the Rev. Harvey M. Light, officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
