Esther Joan Freeburg age 88, of Sunnyside, WA passed away Saturday, February 28, 2009 at Sunnyside Community Hospital. She was born February 22, 1921 to Hans Detlaf and Anna Katharine (Meissner) Kahler on the Dehenal Ranch in Ralston, WA. She graduated from LaCrosse High School in 1939. On Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 1939 she married Lloyd A. Freeburg in the Parsonage of the Selbu Lutheran Church in LaCrosse, WA. Esther was an excellent homemaker, mother of three children and supporter of her husband. She assisted in the office work at the family owned soft water business for many many years. She enjoyed cooking, reading, gardening and was very interested in the activities of her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Garden Club, Reading Club and Eastern Star. She was a charter member and a very active member of the Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, serving on church council and other committees until she was no longer able. Esther will be remembered for her honesty, generosity, love and devotion to her family, caring of animals and immaculate housekeeping. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her son, David L. Freeburg and wife, Jenny of Sunnyside, WA, two daughters, Katharine Swenson and husband, Roger of Monroe, WA and Elizabeth S. Jones and husband, Darryl of Yakima, WA, 9 grandchildren, Charlie, Patrick, Chris, Jeff, Kim, Tana, Tori, Traci and Trista, 14 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Doris V. Kahler. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lloyd A. Freeburg, one brother, Ronald H. Kahler. Viewing and visitation will be held Friday, March 6, 2009 from 1:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. at the Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside, WA. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. at the Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Sunnyside, WA. Interment will be held in the LaCrosse Cemetery, LaCrosse,WA.
