Dana Bradford Jr., 83, Dies Of Cancer; Services Friday
Services for longtime Omaha lumberman and civic leader Dana C. Bradford Jr. will be at 11 a.m. Friday at All Saints Episcopal Church, 9302 Blondo St.
Bradford died Tuesday at Bergan Mercy Respite Care Center after a long battle with cancer, said his wife, Ann. He was 83.
A lifelong Omahan, Bradford followed his father in the lumber business, which was established in Omaha in the late 1880s. The business, Bradford-Kennedy lumber company, closed in the 1970s.
Bradford had served as president of the Nebraska Cancer Society and the Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben. He had also served on a city planning commission and the airport commission.
He was in the Marine Corps Reserve in World War II.
Bradford was the first cousin of former president Gerald Ford. Bradford's mother, Savilla King Pettis, was Ford's aunt.
Besides his wife, Bradford is survived by two daughters, Jessie McCoy of Portland, Ore., and Judy Valverde of Porterville, Calif.; three sons, Dana C. "Woody" Bradford III, an Omaha attorney; the Rev. Peter Bradford of Arvada, Colo.; and Anthony Bradford of Portland, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
