Religious leader. He was one of the first ministers to be convicted and sent to prison (San Quentin) for fraudulently collecting funds from church members after selling the building to be used as their church in a get rich quick scheme. The story made national headlines in newspapers and magazines. He was born Carl Thomas Patten.
