Ruth S Barclay passed away peacefully at the Village at Northrise on Sunday Sept. 9th, 2007. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at age 15, and at her passing, has now gone home to be with Him eternally.
Ruth was born August 3, 1937 in Washington D.C. to Catherine Ruth and R. Campbell Starr. Her mom died 6 days after Ruth's birth. Ruth lived in numerous locations in her formative years. She attended the College of Charleston for 3 years; then graduated from Auburn University in 1961 with a degree in math and minors in Physics and German.
She married John A. Barclay III in 1959 & was married for 19 ? yrs. They moved to Las Cruces in 1961 and she worked at White Sands Missile Range as a technical librarian for a short while. She was active in Christian Women's Club from 1972-1982. She lived in south Texas (Harlingen, Austin and Houston) for 4 years in the mid 80's and then returned to Las Cruces in 1986. She did volunteer work with the MMC Hospital Auxiliary, the Red Cross, & at the Munson Senior Center Kraft Nook for approximately 6 to 7 years. Ruth was a member of St. James Episcopal Church for over 20 yrs., until her move to Texas. She was a member of 1st Evangelical Free Church in Las Cruces from April 1997 until the time of her death.
She was preceded in death by both parents, and her two younger half-brothers, Robert and Edward Starr. Ruth is survived by three sons and their families:
John and Janet & their son John A. Barclay V (Quint) of Archdale, NC; Lt. Col. Peter (US Army) and Debbie of Harker Heights, TX.& his daughters Tarythe & Ayme; Charles and Jennifer & his son Keeghan of Edgewood, NM, daughters Triana & Jessika and Melisza and grandson Leo of Rockford, IL. She is also survived by her ex-husband John A. Barclay III & his wife Dorothy of Mesilla, NM. sister-in-law Winetta A. Starr of Granby, Mo., & numerous cousins.
The family wishes to thank the following for their compassionate care of Ruth:
MV Hospice, The Village at Northrise staff, Mt. Shadows home health workers, & Dr. Bishnu Rauth and Dr. George Lopez, who cared for Ruth for so many years.
As per Ruth's request, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be on Saturday Sept. 15, 2007 at 4:00pm at 1st Evangelical Free Church, located at 1435 S. Pecos. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the 1st E. Free Church's building fund & mailed to PO Box 1835, or to Mesilla Valley Hospice at 299 Montana Ave.
Service Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of La Paz - Graham's Funeral Home 555 West Amador Las Cruces, New Mexico.
