Ray Ragsdale was born in Halfway, Mo. in 1913 he was one of 15 children of Lieu Ragsdale, Minnie Ragsdale was his mother. She was mother to 13 of Lieu's children.

Lieu's first wife died at the birth of her fourth child. she died in 1894. Lieu married Minnie in 1896.
