Joseph C. Stauder, age 88, of 72 Schoolhouse Road, Bloomsburg, died at 11:35 p.m. Sunday, July 7, 2013, at the Orangeville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, where he had been a patient for seven weeks. He had been in failing health for several years.
Born July 13, 1924, in Berwick, he was a son of the late Joseph A. Stauder and Mabel (Creasy) Stauder Hess. He resided in Buckhorn since 1999 and had lived in Danville for many years prior to that. Joe was a 1942 graduate of the former Orangeville High School, and he also attended the former Bloomsburg State Teacher's College for two years.
Joe was employed as a personnel manager at the former Roselon Yarns, Danville, for 15 years. Later, he was employed at the Berwick Hospital, and also by the former Columbia Health Insurance Company. He also owned the Frosty Valley Mobile Homes dealership; operated the Red Chef Family Fair Stand at the Bloomsburg Fair for many years, and also sold Amway products. In recent years, he sold coins at area flea markets.
In his early life, he was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ, Forks. Recently, he had been attending the First English Baptist Church, Bloomsburg. He was a former member of Oriental Lodge 460, F&AM, Orangeville; was presently a member of Caldwell Consistory, Bloomsburg; and was a past president of the Columbia County Shrine Club. He was also involved with the establishment of the Columbia-Montour Vocational-Technical School.
Joe was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a member of the Fort McClure Post 804, VFW and Valley of Bloomsburg Post 273, American Legion, both of Bloomsburg.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Nancy Y. McHenry, on Sept. 13, 1990; and by a brother, Keith I. Stauder, on March 8, 1994.
Surviving are his wife, the former Lois (Price) Fetterman Stauder, with whom he celebrated his 17th wedding anniversary on Oct. 21, 2012; six children: Joseph F. Stauder, and his wife Susan, Northumberland; Linda A., wife of Leonard Tomashefski; James Stauder, and his wife Mindy, both of Catawissa; William A. Stauder, and his wife Kim, Walnutport; Robert M. Stauder, and his wife Kathy, Lewisburg; Lori N., wife of Kenneth A. Piestrak, Danville; two stepdaughters: Cheri, wife of Matthew Pelton, Danville, and Wendy Brassington, Nescopeck; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Donald McHenry, and his wife Shirley, Roswell, N.M.; two sisters-in-law: Judy, wife of Ed Graber, Westfield Center, Ohio; and Miriam Stauder, Orangeville; and a brother-in-law, Kraig Rock, Buford, Ga.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in the First English Baptist Church, 700 Millville Road, Bloomsburg, with his pastor, the Rev. Dr. L. Lee Barnhart, officiating. Interment will be in Zion Cemetery, near Forks, with military honors by the combined VFW veterans group. Friends may call at the church Thursday from 1-2 p.m.
