Delbert A. Beikmann, Linn, Kansas, was called to his heavenly home on Saturday, October 30, 2010, at the Linn Community Nursing Home.
The Lord blessed him with 80 years, 3 months and 15 days. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m, Wednesday, November 3, at Zion Lutheran Church, Linn. The Rev. David Gruoner will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday, noon until 8 p.m. at Ward Funeral Home in Linn. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. The pallbearers will be grandsons, Ryan Winter, Travis Winter, Dallas Seabourn, Dustin Seabourn, Andrew Beikmann, Matthew Schmale, Brandon Beikmann, Jeffrey Beikmann, Jason Beikmann and Nicholas Ost. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Linn.
The Lord blessed August Beikmann and his wife Selma (Mueller) Beikmann of Strawberry, Kansas on July 15, 1930, with the gift of a son whom they named Delbert August Beikmann. He was baptized on July 20, 1930, by the Rev. Paul Stolp of Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Linn. He confirmed his faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in the rite of confirmation on April 2, 1944, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, under the Rev. O.H. Praneuner. On May 24, 1944 he graduated from Immanuel Lutheran School.
On January 17, 1951, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the U.S.S. Bexar during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on October 27, 1954.
On May 25, 1952, he was united in marriage to Marcile H. Damman at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Linn, by Rev. B.A. Hobratschk. The couple was blessed with two daughters, Patricia and Karen; and two sons, Wayne and Kevin.
Delbert was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Linn, where he was a member of the choir for many years and held various offices. Delbert was a very active member of the Wholmoor American Legion Post #237 where he served as Commander, Vice-Commander, First District Commander and First District Vice-Commander. He was a long time member of the Linn Booster Club holding several offices. He loved being involved in the Linn community serving on the city council, Linn City ambulance service and Linn City fire department as Fire Chief for many years. Delbert enjoyed sports and was very proud to be able to announce the Linn High School Bulldog football games for over 30 years. After leaving the service Delbert farmed with his father and worked for the Washington County Coop Creamery as a cream and milk truck driver. After the creamery closed he worked for Pruser Electric, the Washington County Rural Water District #2 and later in life operated his own business, Beikmann Plumbing and Electric. It was hard for Delbert to sit and relax, but would always find time to watch his Jayhawks and Cowboys. He was proud of his children and enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Lorene Kolle and Darlene Rothlisberger. Survivors include his wife, Marcile Beikmann; two daughters, Patricia Seabourn and husband Brad, Manhattan, Kansas; Karen Schmale and husband Larry, Linn; two sons, Wayne Beikmann and wife Barbara, Olathe, Kansas, Kevin Beikmann and wife Lisa, Linn; three sisters, Lorna Beikmann, El Reno, Oklahoma, Dorothy Mueller and husband Lowell, Garden City, Kansas, Verna Beikmann, Linn; two sister-in-laws, Maydean Dittmer, Linn, and Leola Grimm and husband Dennis, Evansville, Indiana; one brother-in-law, Jerald Damman and wife Irma, Clifton, Kansas; fifteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
