Mrs. Electa Spillane nee Hollister, was born in Leon Center, Cataraugus County, New York, October 4, 1832. Her parents were of Pennsylvania origin.

At the age of seventeen she married John Stockfleeth, a captain on the great lakes, residing in Buffalo, New York; and at the age of eighteen years, Caroline K. now Mrs. Reynolds was born. In 1852 her husband died in the city of Milwaukee, of quick consumption; and, being left alone with her babe, she, by the influence of two married sisters, moved to Waupun, Wis. and there married Michael Spillane.

From this union there were born eight children. The first born Jeremiah, died at the age of nine years. There are now living Mrs. H. Reynolds, of Waseca; Michael Spillane of Wahpeton, N. D.; Mrs. Mary Cooney, of Owatonna; Mrs. Maggie Irwin of Evansville, Minn., William Spillane of Woodville; Mrs. Gertrude Brogan, of St. Peter, Minn.; Douglas J. Spillane and Miss Kate Spillane of Woodville. They were
all present at the funeral except Michael. She moved with her family to Woodville township from Wisconsin in 1867, and settled on the farm where she died. Besides caring for her family of eight, she cared for and raised to manhood three orphan boys who love to call her mother. She has living twenty-one grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

She was buried according to the rites of the Catholic church of this city, Rev. J. J. Treanor officiating, with
solemn high mass, and her remains were followed by a very large procession of relatives and friends to the Catholic cemetery, one and one half miles south of this city. She was laid to rest by the side of her husband Michael Spillane, who preceded her five years ago. She was one of God's noble women, a good neighbor, a devoted wife, a true friend and a loving mother. Yes, we will miss her. May she rest in peace.
