A son of Wooster A. and Verna (Ohl) Riedel, he was born in Wyandot County on Dec. 5, 1906. He married Edith U. Wagner on Aug. 2, 1928. She died Sept 11, 1990.
Surviving are five sons, Robert Jr., Findlay; James and Richard, rural Tiffin; and Alton and Verlin, rural Sycamore; five daughters, Clara Stuckey, Bradenton, Fla.; Mary Hill, Marion; Phyllis Young, rural Bloomville; Roma Baird, Shelbyville, Ill.; and Cathi Clinger, Sycamoe; 30 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ross and Dale, Bucyrus; and a sister, Marjorie Bookmeyer, rural Sycamore. He was preceded in death by two great-grandchildren, two sisters and a brother.
Mr. Riedel was a retired painter and sheep shearer.
He was a member of Sycamore United Methodist Church, where he was a past trustee and former school teacher.
Mr. Riedel was a past member of the former Board of Public Affairs in Sycamore, and was a member of the Mohawk Sixty Plus Club, Mohawk Historical Society, National Rifle Association, Sycamore Horseshoe Club and the Sycamore United Church of Christ dartball team. He was a former member of the Ohio Sheep Shearer Association. Mr. Riedel enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing baseball and dartball, and was a Mohawk Warriors fan.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, with the Revs. Kevin Rothhaar and Kelly Brown officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery in Sycamore. Visitation is Saturday from 2-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial may be made to Sycamore United Methodist Church, Mohawk Historical Society or Hospice of Wyandot County.
