Maureen P. 'Mo' (Garrick) Siuzdak, a daughter of Bernard and Ethel (Phillips) Garrick, was a well-known and well-liked Naugatuck resident. She graduated from Saint Raphael School of Nursing in New Haven, started her career as an O.R. nurse at the University of Virginia Medical Center, and was later retired from Griffin Hospital in Derby. One of the highlights of Mo's career was a trip to Brazil as a member of a surgical team which performed facial reconstructions on children in the Amazon Basin.

Maureen was a woman with many interests and passions. She loved flowers and plants, enjoyed golf, liked to walk, and was known for the many different hats she liked to wear; and as a couple, she and Bob had a passion for travel. In their later years, the Siuzdaks found and fell in love with Acapulco, Mexico, where they would plant themselves at the bayfront 'Hotel Malibu' for the month of January. There, they would kick back and relax and enjoy the simple things in life — basic accommodations, good food, long walks, swimming, drinking, music, lots of sunshine, and plenty of laughs shared with other travelers who became their South-of-the-Border friends. With her husband's wallet lovingly tucked in her pocketbook, Mo made her final trip to Acapulco in January 2009 — knowing that Bob was smiling down on her (and would have been glad that she went). Along with friends, she reminisced and recounted stories from years gone by; and her beloved Bob was with her in spirit.

Having survived her husband by two years, Mo Siuzdak peacefully passed away at her home in Naugatuck, at age 70, after a short battle with cancer. Though she knew the reality of her disease, Mo remained brave and upbeat, gave it all she had, and lived her life well until the very end. She will be long-remembered and often thought of by the many people whose lives she touched.

In addition to her children, Mo was survived by two grandsons, Devin Siuzdak and Hunter Siuzdak; and she was predeceased by her sister, Jane (Garrick) Page, in 2004. Calling hours were held from 5 to 8 on Tuesday evening, June 1, at the Kelly-Brennan Funeral Home in Waterbury, Connecticut. Her funeral took place the next morning from the funeral home to St. Francis of Assisi Church in Naugatuck for a Mass at 11, after which she was interred at St. James Cemetery.

Rest in peace, Mo — until we meet again.
