George Williamson, 88, of Grain Valley, passed away Sunday, July 7th 2013. A visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 11th at Speaks Suburban Chapel. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 12th at the chapel. Burial will be at Mound Grove Cemetery, Independence, MO.
George was born August 23rd, 1924 in Independence, MO to Jesse Harper and Gladys Irene (Ketchum) Williamson as one of five children. He graduated from William Chrisman High School and attended Graceland College. He enlisted in the Army where he served in the 101st Airborne Division, Unit 501, Screaming Eagles as a Paratrooper during the Battle of the Bulge at the Ardeennes Theatre, also in the Normandy Invasion, and was involved in the liberation of Holland from Germany. He was a proud patriot who earned his two Purple Heart and Bronze Star awards. George married Bulah Mardell (Evers) in 1947 and together raised their daughter, Loretta. He started work at Standard Oil for many years before turning to building and electrical work. He owned his business Williamson Electrical for approximately 20 years. He was a member and Elder of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, most recently the Oak Grove Restoration Branch. George was a deeply religious and spiritual man who studied many translations of scripture, including Greek with his son-in-law, Dimitri. He enjoyed fishing, and camping with his family, and traveling with his wife to Hawaii. George is loved and will be greatly missed.
