  • Death 1777 Hopewell, Mercer County, New Jersey, USA

Thomas was probably born about 1714/16 in Hopewell Twp., old Hunterdon (now Mercer) Co., NJ. He was the son of Robert Blackwell Jr. and Elizabeth Combs, who are thought to have settled in Hopewell soon after their 1710 marriage in Newtown, Long Island.

Thomas purchased land from Daniel Cox in 1743. He was devised a 166-acre plantation in his father's will, 1751. He served as overseer of highways over Stony Brook, 1746, and as constable, 1759. His estate inventory lists flour and a grindstone.

The following Find A Grave members are direct descendants of Thomas Blackwell: Joseph R. Klett, Richard Burd.

Note: Thomas might have been buried in the Presbyterian Churchyard in Pennington considering his residence in Hopewell Twp. and the affiliation of his wife's family with this church. However, burial on his plantation is another possibility, and perhaps more likely.

I have created a virtual cemetery for Thomas, his wife and their children, Blackwell (Thomas - part) Family [Mercer Co., NJ]. Additional virtual cemeteries are linked from there for the families of children John, Jacob, Benjamin, Gerusia Dunn, and Amy Drake. -Joseph R. Klett
