Betty Weiss, age 85, of Denison, Iowa and formerly of Newell, Iowa died July 3, 2013 at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison.

Betty Joyce Borecky was born in Denison, Iowa on September 27, 1927 the daughter of Charles and Bertha (Doxsee) Borecky.

Betty grew up in Denison where she attended the First Methodist Church and graduated from Denison High School in 1945.

During World War II, Betty helped the war effort by working at Amours' egg drying plant in Denison. After high school she went on to beauticians' school.

Her brother, Allen D. Borecky, introduced Betty to her future husband, Louis B. Weiss. Capt. Weiss was SSgt Borecky's commanding officer during World War II. Betty and Louis were married in 1947 in Denison.

Louis worked for Iowa National Mutual Insurance Company headquartered in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. As Louis advanced in the company to vice president, they were transferred around the United States and lived in Cedar Rapids, Minneapolis, Sioux Falls, and Winter Park, Florida. The last few years before Louis retired, they returned to Cedar Rapids.

After Louis retired, they moved to Newell, Iowa where Louis and Betty took care of Betty's mother and were very active in the Newell community and their church. After Louis passed away in 1992, Betty continued to live in Newell and remained active in her church. She enjoyed traveling, reading, and writing letters. She and Louis were very generous to many charities and she continued her generosity after Louis' death.

In 2009, Betty broke her hip in a fall and had to enter various health care facilities. She was a resident at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison from July 28, 2011, until she passed away last Tuesday, July 3, 2013.

Her parents, her husband, and her brothers, Allen and Wilbur Borecky, preceded Betty in death.

She is survived by her brother, Harold and his wife Betty of Falls Church, Virginia; nephews: Roger Borecky and his wife Ursula and family of Denison, Iowa; Steven Borecky and his wife Mary and family of Denison, Iowa; Roger Scott and family of Texas; and nice, Gloria (Borecky) Ipsen and family of Schleswig, Iowa; other relatives and friends.
