Richard Perry was born about 1847 in Pulaski Co., Kentucky, probably in the part of lower Pulaski Co. that became part of McCreary County when it was created in 1912.

Richard was the son of John L. Perry (1819-1891) and Nancy Vanover (1820-1882). Both of Richard's parents were born in North Carolina. Both died in Whitley Co., KY.

About 1858, Richard married Temperance "Tempy" King. She was the daughter of William T. King (1815-1877) and Jane "Jennie" Stephens (1817-bet 1880/1900). William was the son of Thomas Murray "Tom" King (1790-1880) and Mary Rebecca "Polly" Cox (1800-1881).

Tempy's mother, Jane, was the daughter of Joshua "Josh" Stephens (1785-1855) and Temperance "Tempy" Dupree ? (1790-1860), both buried in the Call Hill Cemetery in McCreary Co., KY. Joshua was the son of Moses Stephens (1762-1853). Tempy's parents are currently uncertain.

Richard and Tempy had six known children between 1869 and 1878. They were Nancy Elizabeth Perry (1869- ?), John B. Perry (1871-1973), Martha Perry (1872- ?), William M. Perry (1875-1963), Polly Perry (1877-1939) and Catherine "Kate" Perry (1878-aft 1900).

Richard appears in the 1880 US Census but not in the 1900 census. Die between 1880 and 1900? Tempy appears in the 1900 census as "widowed". Since they did not have any known children after the 1880 census it is likely that Richard died not long after that census was taken.

It is thought that Richard is buried in the King Cemetery with either an unmarked grave or has a unreadable field stone for his grave marker. Over the years this cemetery has also been known as the Laurel Creek Cemetery and is called by some today the Perry-King Cemetery.

Richard's wife, Temperance "Tempy" King, was buried in this cemetery decades later (1920) and now has a badly broken marker that has only her name carved on it. No other information. She apparently did not remarry after Richard's death. Richard's brother, William Perry (1839- ?), is also buried in this cemetery. He has a Civil War military marker for his headstone with no death date.
