QUEENSBURY, N.Y. - Marshall C. Gordon, 78, died Friday, July 5, 2013, with MDS/leukemia, at Glens Falls Hospital.
He was born Feb. 9, 1935, in Whitehall, the son of William and Ruth (Pike) Gordon. After his mother died when he was seven days old, he was raised by his aunt and uncle, Harry and Anna (Pike) Leggett.
He received his GED in 1956.
Mr. Gordon served in the U.S. Army as an MP and in Germany in the 1950s. He was also a member of the National Guard.
He married Betty J. Bader May 5, 1957, and they had eight children; Betty died in 1989. He married Sally K. "SaraKaty" Gordon Feb. 2, 2009, in Bonita Springs Fla.
He worked in various jobs, including on tugboats, as a prison guard and at Sandy Hill where he did an apprenticeship and graduated as a class A machinist. He was employed at Finch Pruyn for 22 years as a machinist and retired in 1998.
Mr. Gordon was a life member and chaplain of BPOE Elks Lodge #1491, a life member of American Legion #83 and a charter member of the Fire Company, all in Whitehall.
He enjoyed traveling, woodworking, was a New York Yankees and Giants fan, and known as a handyman and a patriot.
Survivors include his wife of Queensbury; two sons, Kyle of Granville and Korey of St. Johnsbury, Vt.; six daughters, Lori Juckett, Marsha Ross, Beth Lavin, Stephanie LaChapelle, Stacy Beebe, all of Whitehall, and Wendy Stewart of Cuttingsville, Vt.; two stepchildren, Joseph Gross of Queensbury and Dawn LeGere of Glenville; 18 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren; six siblings, Ruth Gallagher, Paul, both of Whitehall, Winifred "Jane" of Queensbury, Harriet Jones of South Glens Falls, Ruth Borden of Huletts Landing and Gene of Hunter Mountain; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also predeceased by six siblings, Evelyn Leggett, Willard, Robert, Clifford, Max and Russell.
In Whitehall, the funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, at Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church, Skene Street, with the Rev. Rendell Torres, pastor, officiating, followed by burial with full military honors in Neddo Street Cemetery and a reception at the Elks Lodge on North Williams Street.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 8, at the Michael G. Angiolillo Funeral Home, 210 Broadway, Whitehall.
