Born and raised just west of Wareham, Her father, Frank Morse, was a well known businessman in Wareham. He ran a shop that sold vacuum cleaners, musical instruments, Steinway pianos and sheet music. He loved to entertain and play the piano, no party in Wareham was considered a success without him. Her grandfather, John Fisher, was a well known cranberry man. He built many of the cranberry bogs on Cape Cod in the 19th century. Ruth, (known as Verna) married Clifton Whitcomb Beal in January of 1926. They lived most of their lives in Bournedale at the house that once stood between the mill race and the herring run at the corner of Bournedale Rd and Old Herring Pond Rd. There, they raised two children; Mary Whitcomb Beal and her brother, Carter Whitcomb Beal. After her husband died in 1949, Verna moved permanently to their winter home in Daytona Beach Florida, where she passed in 1962.
