A celebration of life service for Oliver Massey, 90, of Plainview will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at Ninth Street Church of Christ with minister Jim Brewer and Kerry Blount officiating. Interment will follow at Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Wood-Dunning Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Massey died Monday, Aug. 27, 2012, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock. He was born on Nov. 15, 1921, in Estancia, N.M., to Samuel and Hazel (Hill) Massey. He attended Estancia High School and Highland University in Las Vegas, N.M. Mr. Massey served in United States Army Air Force, 5th Division, as a corporal from July 22, 1942, through Dec.10, 1945. He was stationed in Australia, New Guinea and Japan during World War II, and he was discharged at Ft. Bliss. He was an airplane engine mechanic and received his AAZ Tech Badge. He also attended the Boeing School of Aeronautics in Oakland, Calif. He worked as a serviceman for Montgomery Ward in Childress and later was an auto body repairman, painter and co-owner of Texas Frame and Body Shop in Plainview for 30 years. He was a member of Ninth and Columbia Church of Christ. He married Margaret "Peggy" Louise Macnamara on May 20, 1947 in Las Vegas, N.M. She preceded him in death on Oct. 9, 1990. Mr. Massey is survived by four daughters: Sandra Kaye McMickings and husband Bill of Plainview; Barbara Jean Blount and Mary Kathleen Koen, both of Lubbock, and Cynthia Ann Kingston and husband Alex of Plainview; two brothers, E.Y. Massey of Grand Junction, Colo., and Kay Massey of Paso Robles, Calif.; and sisters Kathleen Alexander of Farmington, N.M., and Betty Sue Peacock of Smokamish, Wash.; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
