On August 10, 1946, she married Merlen Sterzing of Grover, at Zion Lutheran Church in Peshtigo, Wisconsin.
They remained 'young lovers' for 61 wonderful years. Emily worked at Badger Paper Mills in the late 1940's and early 1950's before becoming a full-time mom to daughter Darla.
Emily is survived by her husband Merlen;
daughter Darla Lorenz, who has lived with her parents for the last three years;
a grandson Navy Chief Petty Officer Travis (Kara) Lorenz of Moore, Oklahoma;
a granddaughter Jessica (Denton) LaPlant of Peshtigo;
great-grandchildren Destiny and Dustin LaPlant of Peshtigo and Jackson Lorenz of Moore, Oklahoma.
one sister Alma Kehoe of Peshtigo;
sisters-in-law: Delores Krause, Loretta Sterzing, Beverly Curtis and Gloria Sterzing;
brother-in-law Bud Cohorst;
special nieces Sally Cohorst Boland of Antigo, Janice Cohorst Pepin of Poway, CA and Lynn Jones of Marinette.
Also special friends Mary Peters of Peshtigo and Dan and Pam Lorenz of Athelstane.
Along with her parents James and Emilie Melka, Emily was preceded in death by her sisters: Tillie Malke, Ann Hebbring, Tootie Beyer and Irma Cohorst; two brothers Oswald Mylener and Richard Melka; brothers-in-law Elmer Sterzing, Sr., Loren Sterzing, Melvin Krause, Sr., and William Kehoe.
Visitation at Berth & Rosental Funeral Home. Funeral services at Zion Lutheran Church in Peshtigo with pallbearers were nephews Randy Cohorst, Mel Krause, Jr., Elmer Sterzing, David Sterzing, Dan Jones and son-in-law Denton LaPlant. Burial in Glenwood Memorial Gardens in Marinette, WI.
