On May 11, 1941, she was united in marriage to Forrest N. "Spud" Freeman, and to this union two sons and one daughter were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of sixty-eight years, four brothers, and one sister.
Hazel is survived by two sons, Forrest N. "Butch" Freeman, Jr., and his wife, Bobbie of Choctaw, Oklahoma, and Jack F. Freeman, and his wife, Brenda of Marshfield, Missouri; a daughter, Colleen Stofer, and her husband, Golden of Macomb, Missouri; seven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
At an early age, Hazel moved from East Saint Louis, Illinois to Barnsdall, Oklahoma. Her freshman year of high school, she moved to the Macomb/Norwood, Missouri area, where she graduated in 1941 from Norwood High School.
Hazel was employed at MFA Supermarket, and later a long-time employee of Se-Ma-No Electric Cooperative. After retiring from Se-Ma-No, she worked as a tour guide at the Laura Ingalls Wilder home.
Hazel made a profession of faith at an early age and was a long-time member of Corinth Baptist Church in Macomb, Missouri, where she served as church treasurer for thirty-three years. She also taught Bible School and Sunday School for many years.
As an active member of both Norwood and Mansfield Eastern Star chapters, Hazel held many positions-including the state office of Grand Electa in 1995.
Everyone who knew Hazel recognized her by her infectious smile and beaming personality. She loved life and enjoyed being around people, no matter where she ventured. Hazel was always ready to travel any time she was able. A few of her destinations include Israel, Scotland, Alaska, and various other places in the United States.
Granny will always be remembered as someone who cared about people, lived her life to the fullest, and found joy when the ones she loved did the same.
Services were Tuesday, October 16, 2012, 2:00 p.m. in Corinth Baptist Church, Macomb, Missouri with Rev. Allen Pritchard officiating.
