Pvt. Comp. L, 5 IN Cav.
Enlisted Jan.4,1864 residence Lafayette, Tippecanoe Co., IN

Evidently Thomas Price Stewart, (b.ca.1819 Henry Co., KY), son John Stewart and Mary Rawlings. Married, (Feb.23,1843 Clay Co., IL), his 1st cousin, Sarah Nuttall Rawlings, (1826- aft.1860), daughter of Levi Rawlings and Jane Sutton. Living in Prairie Twp., White Co., IN, 1860.. Both Thomas and his wife died before 1870, since sons John Riley Stewart, (b.1847 IL), and Thomas Price Stewart, (b.1859) IN, were living with different relatives in 1870. Thomas P. Stewart's death is listed in the records as a suicide. [Unknown if connected to injuries or perhaps the death of his wife?] This, and the early death of his wife, may explain why no pension claim seems to have been filed on behalf of his children.
