MITCHELL, July 15.

Dr. A. F. BERRY, the well known physician of Lawrenceport, died at his home yesterday morning of consumption. The Doctor had been in poor health for several months. We have not learned the time of the funeral.

Alfred F. Berry, at his home in Lawrenceport July 14, 1898, at the age of 57. The funeral sermon was preached at the house by Rev. Jordan, of Bloomington. Interment in Mitchell cemetery under the auspices of Washington Commandery No. 33 Knights Templar assisted by the members of Mitchell Masonic Lodge.

He was born in Daviess county, Ind., Jan. 6, 1841. At an early age he moved to Bloomington, then to Indianapolis then to Bedford. During this time he had followed the trade of printer. At the breaking out of the civil war, he was Lawrence county's first volunteer, enlisting under Capt. Short, Co. F. 15th Ind. Vol. Inf. During his military service he was in over twenty battles. He was for some time officer in the Signal Corps and at the close of war was discharged with rank of Lieutenant. After the war he was married to Carrie Dye of Springville, Ind. And after attending medical lectures at Cincinnati, they located in Lawrenceport in 1869. From that time until ill health prevented him, he was an active progressive physician. He died on 14th day of July 1898, in the same house in which Bishop Roberts died, 56 years before.
