Born in Stillwater, he was the son of the late C. Edward and Marion Casey Thompson.
He was educated in Mechanicville schools.
Dan was employed for 15 years by Roland J. Down Co. and retired in 1985. Prior to that he worked as Westvaco Paper Co. in Mechanicville for over 31 years.
Dan was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served in World War II in the Pacific Theatre.
He was a Purple Heart recipient for wounds received on Iwo Jima.
He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Ballston Spa and a member of the VFW Waterford Memorial Post 5800.
Dan was the husband of Bettye Bull Doin Thompson and the late Agnes Jurcsak Thompson. He was father of Mark D. Thompson (Jeannie) of Troy, Ohio, Marion E. Van Hall (Maurice) of Meridian, ID, and Dana A. Thompson (Geri) of Gansevoort; and stepfather of Thomas M. Doin of Waterford, and Louis R. Doin (Helen) of East Greenbush. He was the brother of Madeline Matala of Schaghticoke, the late Jack Thompson, Leone Barton and Jane Gibeault. Also surviving are four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; and stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Interment will follow at Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
