Asa Gates White was the son of Samuel White (1789-1823) and Eunice Emerson (1791-1839). He married (1) Amanda Fitzallen Davidson (1825-1846) in Iowa April 4, 1846. After she died he married (2) Ann Eliza Stone (1818-1877) in Iowa in 1848. Asa and Ann appear in the 1860 US Census as residents of Marion, Linn County, Iowa. Asa enlisted as a private at Springville, Iowa, November 21, 1862, and was mustered into Company K, 6th Iowa Cavalry, November 25. Private White was promoted to Bugler. Bugler White was mustered out at Sioux City, Iowa, October 17, 1865. After the war Asa and Ann relocated to Kansas where they appear at Washington (Belleville), Republic County, in the 1875 Kansas State Census. After her death in 1877, Asa married (3) Martha Bush Keyes (1826-1902) in Wabaunsee County, Kansas, on April 27, 1880, and was still a resident of Wabaunsee County in 1885 (Kansas State Census). Asa and Martha moved to San Diego, California, in early 1887, where they remained the rest of their lives.
