Archibald served with Company F, 15th Vermont Regiment during the Civil War. He mustered in as a Private on October 22, 1862, and was promoted to Corporal on March 10, 1863. He mustered out August 5, 1863.
In 1880, Archibald worked as a carpenter in Lunenberg, Vermont. He and Louise, and their children Jennie and Horace lived with Archibald's father.
By 1910, Archibald was living and farming in Lunenberg. Beekeeping was apparently a large part of his farm operation. His housekeeper, Mahala Hartwell, lived on the farm as well; they married on December 17 1910 in Lunenberg.
