Gustav Marks was born to Martin Marks (or Marx) and Anna Caroline Zanto in Kreis Kolmar, Posen, Prussia, some time before his christening date (27 Dec 1845). He married Ernestine Radetszky about 1872 in Posen. He emigrated separately from his wife and three children, arriving in the US about 1882. Two more children were born in the US. After Ernestine's death, he married another Ernestine (Endshoff Borneck) in 1906 in Ripon.
