On June 26, 2013 Hebert James Coleman broke the bonds of this world and
transitioned to his heavenly home.
He was born to Mattie and Cooper Coleman in Rayville, LA. After
graduating from Rayville Rosenwald School in 1954 he moved to Lake
Charles, La. where he lived most of his life.

Herbert answered the call of duty to serve his country and enlisted
with the United States Army. His dedication to his country was so
strong that after completion of his tour of duty he then enlisted with
the Marine Corps. Post retirement from the military, he attended
Sowela Technical Institute and completed his studies in welding. He
later was employed by Cocoa Cola Bottling Company and retired after 15
years of service.

Dedication is a term that summarizes the life of Hebert James Coleman.
Raised in a christian home he dedicated his life in the service of God's
army at an early age. He was a faithful member of the Mount Calvary
Baptist Church for 49 years. He was an active member of Sunday school,
bible study, the brotherhood, male chorus and was very proud to serve
as a deacon. He loved the fellowship shared by the men of Calvary as
they would prepare for the annual men's day service. He was a man of
God and loved his Lord and Savior. Hebert was also a Mason with
Cornerstone Lodge 229.

His most cherished times were spent with his family and friends. He
touched many lives with his smile and generosity. He was a devoted and
dedicated son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend to all who knew him.
He shared a special bond with his elderly mother whom he tenderly cared
for. He loved to cook sumptuous meals for his family members. He truly
loved his niece and nephew and often referred to them as the "little
rascals'. He was overjoyed when he was asked to be the God father of
his niece. During his niece and nephew formative years he would
make a weekly visit to their school, he showed his love in so many ways.
James was always grateful for people in his life, he knew he was blessed
with a special sister in law, Sadie Coleman. Always challenging himself
to learn more, he taught himself to play the electric guitar aka
Lucille. He was also self taught in Spanish, and of course he was an
avid student of God's word.

Hebert will forever be loved and remembered by his mother, Mattie Mosely
of Lake Charles; brother, Joseph (Sadie) Coleman of Sulphur, LA;
treasured nieces Cynthia (Mark)Lee of Tampa FL; Sharon Coleman-Semien
and her children CJ and Cloee Semien "lil angel" of Lake Charles;
Terricida Lozada and her son Jacob Coleman of San Antonio, TX; along
with countless friends, family, and cousins.

Hebert is preceded in death by his father, Cooper Coleman, sister,
Dorothy Coleman, and brother, Cooper Van Coleman.
