Indian Wars Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He served in the United States Army during the wars with the Plains Indians as a Corporal in Company A, 3rd United States Cavalry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery on January 13, 1877 near Elkhorn Creek, Wyoming Territory. His citation reads "While scouting with 4 men and attacked in ambush by 14 hostile Indians, held his ground, 2 of his men being wounded, and kept up the fight until himself woiunded in the side, and then went to the assistance of his wounded comrades". His Medal was awarded to him on May 15, 1890.
