Jefferson City News-Tribune (MO) - Thursday, October 16, 2008:

Mr. Robert J. Roettgen, age 57 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at his home. Bob was born October 30, 1950, in Jefferson City, Mo., the son of John H. and Angela A. Kremer Roettgen, both deceased. He was married on September 21, 1991, in New Bloomfield, Mo., to Becky Griggs, who survives at the home.

A lifelong resident of Jefferson City, Bob was a 1969 graduate of Jefferson City High School. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict and received two Purple Hearts. He was an automobile mechanic at Zumwalt's Auto Repair prior to owning and operating Bob Roettgen Auto Repair Service in Cedar City from 1992 until ill health forced his retirement on December 31, 2005. Bob was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Wyman Basinger Post 35, and enjoyed NASCAR, the Professional Bull Riders, traveling, gardening, bingo, and playing cards.

Other survivors include: two sons, Mark Roettgen and his wife Kelly of Jefferson City, Mo. and Craig Roettgen of Holts Summit, Mo.; one daughter, Jennifer Roettgen and her fiancé Brad Welch of Jefferson City, Mo.; two step-sons, Jake Taggart and his wife Tiffany of Jefferson City, Mo. and Luke Taggart and his girlfriend Sarah Cobb of Springfield, Mo.; one sister, Joan Gill and Marlo Vansickle of Jefferson City, Mo.; two brothers, Ken Roettgen and his wife Linda of Holts Summit, Mo. and Sam Roettgen and his wife Debby of Jefferson City, Mo.; six grandchildren, Allan Roettgen, Kobe Roettgen, Taylor Roettgen, Abrah Taggart, Jonah Taggart, and Jobe Taggart. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Samantha Roettgen.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Saturday, October 18, 2008, in the Freeman Chapel with Pastor Steve Griggs officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be conducted at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 4-7 p.m. Friday.
