Death Lays Hand On Frank Clancy
Frank Clancy, former proprietor of the Detroit Hotel, ranchman of Kent and in the palmy days of Pacific Coast racing, half owner of the Rafty & Clancy Stables, died Monday afternoon in Wallace, Idaho, of pneumonia. Fifteen years ago Clancy had a string of fighters and was a local fighter promoter up to the time the lid was clamped on that game. He handled the last fight in Idaho before the lid went on there a few days ago.

Frank Clancy was born in Machias, Maine, March 21, 1862, coming to Seattle ten years later. He was one of a family of eight – six brothers and two sisters. With this family also came an uncle, Thomas Clancy, who subsequently became a councilman to be succeeded later by Charles Clancy, who died a few years ago. Frank Clancy never wanted office for himself, but up to about a dozen years ago he was an important factor in the campaigns of those men who did want office. The Clancy power was broken about 1904, but subsequently was partially restored. Six years ago Frank Clancy declared himself out and retired to his ranch near Kent. He reappeared occasionally but was not active in local politics during the last few years.

Two brothers, John and George and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Hughes and Mrs. Grace James, survive Clancy. John Clancy went to Wallace yesterday after notice of Frank Clancy’s death was received and will bring the body here tomorrow for funeral and interment.
