WEST POINT – Jacob Melvin Garrett, 92, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point. He was born June 23, 1921, in Texas to Hattie McCleskey and Leslie Garrett. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He moved to Arizona in 1938 and worked for Phelps Dodge Copper Co. for 35 years. He moved to Mississippi in 1981 and was a member of Siloam Baptist Church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 5, at Siloam Baptist Church with the Rev. Doran Henry officiating. Burial will follow in McPherson Cemetery. Robinson Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his wife, Margie Garrett of West Point; brother, Sidney Garrett of Pearce, Ariz.; and sisters, Opal Speck and Helen Sines, both of Clyde, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Alyce Garrett, and his parents.

Pallbearers will be Rush Robinson, Alex Robinson, Mark Stafford, Gabe Stafford, Bobby Brand and Claude Cartee. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Siloam Baptist Church.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to service time Friday at the church.
