Velma Rae Ballard, 66, of Shady Cove, Ore., passed away suddenly Monday, July 1, 2013. Velma was born April 22, 1947, to LouWauna Roper-Combs and James Roper, Lakeview, Ore. She graduated from Paisley High School and moved to Medford, Ore., in 1965, to attend business college. She met and married Sam Anderson and they had one daughter, Tina. Sam passed away in 1989.

Velma met Richard Ballard and they married in 1991. Velma worked several years for the Southern Oregon Dental Society and Providence Hospital. She and Richard then ventured on to be business owners of Green's Sewing & Vacuum in Medford, Ore.

Velma was a very active volunteer of the Moose Lodge in Shady Cove, Ore. She enjoyed cooking and crocheting, and recently learned to cross stich. Velma had a vivacious spirit and a great sense of humor. She will be missed by all her loved ones and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Sam; and step-daughter, Vickie White. She leaves behind husband of 22 years, Richard Ballard; and daughter, Tina Anderson. She also leaves behind four brothers; Jim, Tom, John and Bob Roper; stepsons, Steve, Grant, Mark and Mike Ballard, Matt Chandler and step-daughter, Carla Ballard; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will take place Saturday, July 6, 2013, 11:00am at Conger-Morris Central Point Chapel, 800 S Front St., Central Point, Ore. Immediately following the funeral service a graveside honoring is to be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary, 2201 N Phoenix Rd., Medford, Ore.
