Lonnie L. HAWKINS
Lonnie L. HAWKINS, 89, died Wednesday, December 29, 2004, in a local hospital.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday in the Elliott-Hamil Chapel of Faith, 5701 Hwy 277 South, with Karen JOHNSON officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation is tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. HAWKINS was born January 4, 1915 in Buffalo Gap, Texas, the son of Clarence and Eller (GLOSSOP) HAWKINS. He served in the U. S. Marines in the South Pacific (1941-1946), landing on Guadalcanal and the Solomon Islands. Lonnie resided in California until 1978 when he returned to Abilene with his wife, Beatrice Sartor HAWKINS. He was a hotel chef.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 1979, two sisters, Gladys WAINSCOAT and Edna TOLIVER, and four brothers, Dewey HAWKINS, Ollie HAWKINS, Clarence HAWKINS Jr., and Virgil HAWKINS.
Survivors include his son & daughter-in-law, Jack L. and Georgie HAWKINS of San Diego, CA; daughter & son-in-law, Virginia HAWKINS and Dr. James KENAGA of San Diego; brother, Ray HAWKINS of Abilene; 2 grandchildren, Shannan NOTHOMB and husband Ken, and Gregory HAWKINS and Kiley Rose NOTHOMB; three nieces, Georgan HOUSEFULKE and Nona WAINSCOAT, both of Abilene, and Bobbie Louise HAWKINS of New Mexico; two nephews, Bob PICKETT of Sweetwater and Steve HAWKINS of Abilene; and friend, Wanda WALLACE.
