CHATEAUGAY — Rose Marie Douglas, of the Douglas Road, Chateaugay, N.Y., died Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at home surrounded by family after her courageous battle with leukemia.

Born in Chateaugay on June 8, 1937, she was the daughter of Louis and Corinne (Burgoyne) Dupree who predeceased her.

She attended Brainardsville School and was a member of the last class to graduate from the old Chateaugay High School on Church Street in 1954.

Rose was married to George William Douglas on Sept. 24, 1955 in Chateaugay and spent 55 of their 57 years together at the Douglas homestead on the Douglas Road taking care of her family. Her passion was cooking for her family and she enjoyed spending time with her grand and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Douglas was a member of the Catholic Daughters, the Altar and Rosary Society, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Besides her husband, she is survived by five children and their spouses, Jay and Melanie Douglas of Chateaugay, Cindy and Kevin Gale of Moira, Lynn and Jim Harrigan of Chateaugay, Cheryl Douglas and her companion John Cook of Malone, and David Douglas of Malone; five grandchildren, Courtney and Eric Weaver, Nicholas and Angela Mackey, Danielle Dumas, Jacob Gale, and Adam Dumas; two great-grandchildren, Madison and Zachary Weaver; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Marcia Ashline of Mooers, Nancy Ashline of Chateaugay, and Debbie and Randy Davis of Fla.; a brother and sister-in-law, Louis Bud and Manya Dupree of Churubusco; a sister-in-law, Joanne Douglas of Durham, N.C.

She was predeceased by a sister, Beverly Gardner.

Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, July 5, 2013 at the Chateaugay Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2013 in St. Patrick's Church with Rev. John Looby officiating. Burial will follow mass and take place at Eastside Cemetery, Chateaugay.
